A Brief History Of L1582's Charitable Fundraising

Muscular Dystrophy Canada

Since 1968 Oakville Firefighters have raised more than $160,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Canadian Firefighters are the #1 fundraising force for MDC annually.

In 2020 our Association was the #1 fundraiser amongst Ontario's fire service, and 7th overall in Canada.

They are a registered charity providing the program through generous donations from Firefighters Associations, service groups, and other public and private organizations.

Food4Kids Halton

A 10-year-old boy waited outside the locked doors of a school breakfast program. The program was to start at 8:15 and the child stood outside at 7:15 in the dark, in the cold and alone. He explained he had not had any food on the weekend and was hungry. Could he please have some food? This child inspired the launch of the Food4Kids program.

Food4Kids Halton is an unbelievable organization that has become an integral part of our community.  They provide more than 800 healthy food packages that are distributed in 97 schools across Halton.

Our members in the past have been involved with sorting days, where we pack the healthy food packages for Food4Kids Halton to distribute to the children enrolled in their program.  We are looking forward to 4 sorting dates already booked in the first half of 2022.

Lions Foundation Of Canada Dog Guides

The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is a local Oakville organization.  In the early 1980's Lions Clubs across Canada sought to develop a national project to reflect their service to Canadians with visual impairments. The result was Lions Foundation of Canada and its founding program, Canine Vision Canada, which was established in 1985. Since then the Foundation has grown to include additional Dog Guide programs:
HearingServiceSeizure ResponseAutism AssistanceDiabetic Alert and newly introduced, Facility Support.

The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides was one of four charities/organizations that our charity calendars raised money for dating back to 2012.  We also made a Dog Guides themed challenge coin in 2019 where proceeds were donated to the organization.

2019:   $1,110.59 donated from our challenge coin profits.
2014:   $29,250.00 donated from the 2014 charity calendar.
